The year 2025 marks the 350th anniversary of the invention of the balance spring, the very heart of the mechanical watch. To celebrate this milestone, Shellman Nihombashi Mitsukoshi is presenting a special exhibition dedicated to Christiaan Huygens, the brilliant scientist behind this landmark discovery. The exhibition explores the origins of “time” as we know it today, tracing its journey from early astronomical study to modern horology.
To commemorate the anniversary, Rebecca, along with several other independent watchmakers who continue Huygens’ legacy, was invited to contribute a handwritten letter reflecting on her philosophy of watchmaking and the significance of this moment in horological history.
Her letter is showcased alongside her books Hands of Time and About Time and timepieces in the exhibition Dear Watch Lover: Inheriting the Story of Time, on display at the Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store Watch Gallery in Japan from 19th November 19th to 2nd December.
