Going back to the drawing board

Going back to the drawing board

As we’ve been working from home for the last few weeks it’s been the perfect time to catch up with some illustrations to accompany the 2nd Edition of our in-house Project 248 movement.

Craig trained as an illustrator after leaving school and has maintained his passion for drawing alongside his careers ever since. Both Craig and Rebecca were lucky to be among the last watchmaking students in the UK to train in traditional draughtsmanship before the shift to computer aided design.

As a tutor, Rebecca encouraged her students to draw the movements they were dismantling rather than take photographs on their phones as the added connection created when you take the time to sketch things out improves your future memory of it.

Illustration is still an important part of our work as we trial ideas and test concepts. Each watch model we create ends up with its own dedicated manual draughted by hand to document the technical side of its creation. We cherry pick some of the highlights to go in the unique build books that accompany each of our watches on completion.
